Retinal & Macular Disease

The Retinal & Macular Disease Service at the New England Eye Center is dedicated to excellence in the diagnosis and treatment of medical Hand-held OCT examand surgical diseases of the posterior segment of the eye. We have a robust team of retina specialists who work at  our main office at Tufts Medical Center, as well as in our satellite offices in eastern and central Massachusetts. Our doctors work collaboratively with other New England Eye Center specialists to achieve the best outcome for patients with complicated conditions.

Many of our retina specialists are well known on the national and international level for their expertise. They are knowledgeable about the latest advances treating retinal disorders, and are able to offer cutting edge eye care for our patients. In addition, our doctors are involved with research on new technology and treatments. Patients have the opportunity to participate in important clinical trials.

Outpatient Therapeutics

    Eye surgery at New England Eye Center at Tufts Medical Center Boston.
  • Intravitreal injections of pharmacologic agents
  • Pascal laser (Pattern scan laser) – uses pattern array for treating retinal disorders
  • Micropulse laser therapy –uses tiny repetitive low energy pulses which minimize retinal damage
  • Gamma-knife treatment of intraocular tumors
  • Photo-Dynamic Therapy (PDT)


Our dedicated operating rooms feature the latest in posterior segment technology including the following innovations:

  • Argon and diode lasers equipped with both endo and indirect ophthalmoscope delivery systems
  • Viscous fluid injection systems for both silicone oil and perfluorocarbon liquids
  • Radioactive iodine (I125) and palladium plaques for treatment of intraocular tumors
