Dr. Susan Liang is dedicated to providing exceptional care to older patients with glaucoma, cataracts, and other eye diseases. She is passionate about helping older patients, especially those with multiple medical problems, improves function and quality of life through coordinated eye care with the patient’s other health care providers.
Dr. Susan Liang specializes in cataract and glaucoma surgery utilizing the latest techniques and technologies, including Femtosecond Laser-Assisted Cataract Surgery with the latest refractive intraocular (IOL) implants, and minimally invasive glaucoma procedures. Over more than a decade, Dr. Susan Liang has successfully performed thousands of surgeries, including cataract surgery, traditional and minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries, and laser treatment for glaucoma.
Prior to joining the New England Eye Center in 2011, Dr. Liang was an attending physician and Assistant Professor at Boston University Eye Associates at Boston Medical Center for 5 years. There, she completed a Faculty Scholar’s Fellowship in Geriatrics at Boston Medical Center. The American Geriatrics Society has awarded her a grant to develop educational content for ophthalmology residents. She was awarded Best Clinical Instructor in 2008 for her work in training ophthalmology residents at Boston University School of Medicine.
At Tufts Medical Center, Dr. Susan Liang has been active in clinical research. She is an investigator in large multi-center studies evaluating the effectiveness of new glaucoma therapies.
Dr. Susan Liang has lectured locally and nationally on cataract and glaucoma topics. Every year since 2011, Dr. Susan Liang has taught a course at the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s national annual meeting. This course teaches practicing ophthalmologist techniques of glaucoma surgery and management of surgical complications.
The American Academy of Ophthalmology has awarded her the Achievement Award in 2017 for “many years of distinguished service in the programs of this society.”
She is fluent in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin.
