Greetings from the New England Eye Center! We are passionate about eyes. Our facilities provide consultation and treatment of ophthalmic disorders for adults and children through general and subspecialty practices at Tufts Medical Center and satellites in the Boston region. Whether it is evaluation for cataract surgery or expertise in age-related macular degeneration, we provide excellence in quaternary-care ophthalmology across the spectrum of diseases.
The New England Eye Center is a recognized leader in the medical and surgical treatment of disorders of the eye, serving as a local, national, and international consultation center. Our ophthalmologists hold appointments at Tufts University School of Medicine, and the New England Eye Center is part of Tufts Medical Center, the principal teaching hospital of the school of medicine located in downtown Boston. Tufts Medical Center is part of the Tufts Medicine health system, providing care for patients across Massachusetts and beyond.
Our dedication to Ophthalmology begins early in the training of the next generation of physicians and surgeons. Starting with our medical students at Tufts University School of Medicine, their growth is encouraged and cultivated through skill-based education and rotations in our clinics. Our Ophthalmology residency training program offers one of the best learning experiences for aspiring ophthalmologists. It is with close attention to their education and development that we are able to graduate well-rounded, patient-focused physician surgeons. For those seeking superb subspecialty training, our fellowship programs offer the next level of instruction in the areas of vitreoretinal disease, cornea and external disease, and glaucoma. Across the continuum, our learners routinely showcase their abilities on the regional and national stage, presenting their scholarly investigations.
Tantamount to providing the best in eye care and ophthalmology training is our charge to advance the discipline through vision research. The department has a robust National Eye Institute and Department of Defense funded research program. We are focused in three major areas: basic science and clinical research, clinical trials, and translational research. The Tufts Center for Vision Research organizes and supports the basic science vision research programs across the University and the Department of Ophthalmology. Our clinical trials unit hosts studies focused on a number of ophthalmic diseases for both children and adults. The department’s translational research is concentrated on developing state of the art imaging methods for the early diagnosis of diseases of the cornea and retina.
It is a pleasure to welcome you to the New England Eye Center. As leaders in eye care, ophthalmology training, and vision research, we are certain that you will appreciate all our department has to offer.
